Yesterday my group was invited to attended FAO‘s press conference in Kuwait which in turn was sponsored by LoYAC. The conference was the launch of FAO’s TeleFood program in the Middle East Region starting with Kuwait! This year’s World Food Day is themed around “Achieving Food Security in Times of Crisis“.

I took some notes while the FAO representative was talking, but I wish I was thorough!! It was so striking to hear all these facts and figures of how the world is suffering:

Did you know that 1/6 of the world’s population is living in dire hunger! Not that they are picky with what to eat, but actually starving to death and severely malnourished 😦 Striking, right!

Ow and it gets worse when developed/industrialized countries, like the U.S. (an example he gave) would support their farmers financially NOT to sell their crops because if they ALL do, the market prices will drop!! The fact is there’s enough food to go around for everybody! Oh, and there will be some that can be spared to sea!!!!

Recently, support for agricultural initiatives have decreased while food reserves, usually used in times of crisis, are diminishing as well.
